Six of the best dog friendly stays in the Lake District

With the thought of travel outside of the UK looking less and less likely with each week and the ‘green travel list’ having zero new additions, staycations and UK breaks are the way to go this year. And where better to visit for a truly British week (or weekend) away than the Lake District! It’s such a wonderful part of the country to visit come rain or shine and with many households across the UK having added a four-legged friend to their arsenal during lockdown, bouji hotel stays that allow our four-legged friends are a must!

So here are the best dog friendly Lake District stays that I’ve saved on my wish list for our next trip – I’m ready for another break away now, please!

Lodore Falls

This luxury four-star hotel can be found on the shores of Derwentwater in Borrowdale. Prices start at £239 per night with an additional cost of £10 per night. Dog beds and bowls are also available so you don’t have to fill the car with all the extra baggage, and they have dog friendly lounges where you can relax after a day exploring the Lakes.

The Borrowdale Hotel

The Borrowdale Hotel near Keswick is a superb family-owned Lake District hotel set in the beautiful Borrowdale Valley, North Lakes. You can stay here from £189 per night and well-behaved dogs are welcome to stay too. Dogs can stay for £10 per night and they’re allowed in the lounges and conservatory, but sadly not the restaurant.

Windermere Manor Hotel

Located in the heart of Windermere and just a stone’s throw from Bowness, the Windermere Manor Hotel welcomes every member of the family. This hotel is kitted out with the most, complete with a dog grooming room, a fenced grass free run area.

Plus, they provide towels at the entrance, perfect after long muddy walks, and beds, fleeces and bowls are put in the room ready for a good night’s sleep!

Ambleside Manor Hotel

Ambleside Manor is a Victorian Country Guest House, tucked away in Ambleside. Not only do they welcome dogs with open arms, but this is also one of the UK’s first vegetarian hotels, so everything on the menu is either vegetarian or vegan. There’s an extra charge of £10 per dog per stay. We’re headed up here in August and I can’t wait!

The Inn on the Lake

Tucked away in Ullswater, the Inn on the Lake is the proud owner of four AA stars, making this one swanky stay! It’s set in 15 acres of grounds, so there’s plenty of space to run free before heading out onto the fells.

Your pampered pooch can stay for £10 per night and they’re welcome in the reception area, Orangery and Ramblers Bar.

The Coniston Inn

Tucked away off the shores of Coniston Water, The Coniston Inn is a find. I’m biased on this one as we’ve been to stay twice now with Molly, our French Bulldog in tow! Based right off the water, just outside Coniston village it’s the perfect spot to relax, recoup and unwind. Dogs are welcome for an additional charge of £10 and they can accompany you to breakfast, lunch and dinner in the restaurant or outside if you fancy drinks by the jetty.

If you have any suggestions of places I need to check out or to add to the list, please do let me know! I’m always on the hunt for a new fab dog-friendly stay!
