Travel // The Most Scenic Places to Visit in England #AD

England is so much more than its busy capital. It’s more than bustling cities of Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham and Newcastle- as fantastic as these places are, they don’t show the entire picture of the UK. England is full of truly sensational scenery and landscape, and if you want to be wowed by the views or take some pretty pictures, here are a few places you could consider visiting.

The Peak District

The Peak District is most famous for its interesting terrains such as its stepping stones and limestone valleys. Located in Derbyshire in central England, there are plenty of Derby hotels where you can enjoy a relaxed stay in the country for easy access. When visiting the Peak District you get the chance to hike trails, explore caverns, visit a reservoir or view the opera house and other historic buildings. Nearby you have stunning Pavillion Gardens where you can see stunning landscaped scenery, beautiful greenery, plants and wildlife. Nearby you have a local village where you can soak up the quaint English way of life, visit cute shops and enjoy afternoon tea in a cafe or tea room.

The Lake District

One of the most mountainous regions of England is the Lake District located in Northern England- it really does offer some of the most spectacular scenery in the country. You can have fun out on the lakes where you can enjoy canoeing, kayaking, rowing and paddle boarding amongst other water sports. You could go on a bike ride, or if you’re feeling particularly adventurous, visit one of the tree top zip wiring adventures that you can find here. There are walking tours which are great if you want to see some of the best views and the beautiful wildlife and birds.

The white cliffs of Dover feature in poetry, art and songs about the UK- with the white chalk face becoming a symbol of ‘home’ (due to Dover being a very popular port) and war time defense to those in England. Because the cliffs are protected by the National Trust, you get lots of unspoiled scenic views, not to mention tons of flora and fauna. There are even tours where you can explore the rocky caverns.

This seaside town is awash with pretty pastel colours, and features lots of unspoiled sandy coves and beaches. Take in the magnificent sight of Torquay harbour with it’s colourful little boats, or rows of pink, blue, lemon and white beach huts along. View the spectacular sight of the open blue waters of the English channel right from the seafront- no wonder it’s considered as the ‘sailing capital’. When you think of visiting the UK it’s easy to overlook its beaches, but just because there’s not a tropical climate doesn’t mean the beaches aren’t worth a visit. If you’re down south, Devon is one place that deserves to be explored.

What do you think are the most picturesque places in the UK? Have you visit any of these locations?
